Having A Baby Will Make A Guy Grow Up. Not.
Note: This is cross posted from my LiveJournal blog:
In 2008 I still hear the young teens talk amongst themselves.
“If I get pregnant by my boyfriend, he says he will stay by my side no matter what.”
“My boyfriend says he is faithful to me if I get pregnant.”
“He wants a baby too, so I plan n having this child.”
Times have not changed. Sure, our society has become more permissive about teens having sex and making babies, but the truth is, just as many pregnant teens are left by themselves once the girls learn the guy has taken off, never to be seen ever again. Who can the girl turn to? Her parents, if she is lucky, and they support her decision to have the baby. Most parents become disappointed when they learn their little girl has become pregnant by the local idiot who resembles Nathan Bar Jonah. The most recent statistics report that 4 out of ten teenage girls get pregnant before they hit the age of 20. The Center for Disease Control reports more alarming statistics: that 95% of all teenage pregnancies are unintended. 78% of the babies born to teens occur outside of marriage, meaning that the guy who gets the girl pregnant is not under legal obligation to be responsible for the child (personally I think he should be). Approximately 80% of the boys who get teen girls pregnant do not marry the girl and pay less that $800. a year in child support. In short, the guys who sweet talk the poor gullible girls are losers.
Well. To give a real life case, I went to college with a girl who was a pregnant teen, decided to keep her baby, dropped out of high school but finished her education through homeschooling. She appeared bright academically, but when it came to preventing pregnancy insofar as sexual behavior goes, she was in the flunkies. This girl was lucky in that the guy who impregnated her married her, probably at gunpoint by the girl’s father, as the case usually is. Frankly, I did not envy her; having to take care of a baby at such a young age, meaning your life is over with, now you must sacrifice for your baby. The guy she married was probably too typical: the low-wage earner, no education, an idiot to boot, and she was stuck with him. Maybe she got a divorce by now from the ugly dude who knocked her up. The thing is, boys - and that goes for guys in their 20’s and even early 30’s - are not mature enough to handle a baby. Have you ever seen how a guy acts around a baby of his own? Yep, like he himself needs a major diaper change. What woman wants to put up with two babies?
Back to the statistics for a moment. Approximately 40% of the fathers to the teen mother’s baby is over the age of 20. Whoa. Can we say, statutory rape? That’s what it is if the girl is under the age of 18. Now, back to the RL case - this girl’s husband was 12 years older than she. Picture it - a 15 year old girl getting knocked up by a guy who is 12 years older than she. Well. Maybe her parents were idiots for allowing her to have such a relationship with a guy old enough to be her, ahem, uncle. Did it really make him grow up? No, it didn’t. The poor girl has to support a slob who refuses to hold a job anymore. Nothing like being saddled with a loser so much older than you.
So I would have to say no, young males getting girls pregnant does not make them grow up.
