Tow Truck Drivers Charged For Towing Car With Child Inside
Monday, 08 Dec 2008
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Two Fredericksburg-area tow truck employees have been charged with felonies after towing a vehicle with a small child inside.
Police said 25-year-old Jason Bryant of Spotsylvania and 21-year-old Derek Miller of Stafford were charged with child endangerment.
The Patriot Towing employees didn’t realize the mistake until getting back to the business shortly after with the car. The 2-year-old girl was unharmed and was returned to her mother.
Police said the men were on the lookout for improperly parked vehicles at a housing complex and saw the woman’s car double parked Sunday.
The mother told police she ran into the home to talk to some people and left the car running and unlocked with the girl in a car seat. When she returned five minutes later, the car was gone.

The tow truck drivers were charged with negelect but not the mother. What is wrong with this picture? While this article leaves out some significant information, such as who was the mother talking to in the house she decided to visit, why the car was left running (any thief could have made off with the car and her child), and did the mother even know she had her daughter with her at the time. There have been one too many cases of parents leaving their child in the back seat while they were on the way to work or out shopping - exactly how does one forget they have a child with them? While it is not mentioned if that is the case, it is still reckless to leave a two year old child in a car alone with the car running. Tow truck drivers are not paid to check and see if there are any young children left behind in the car by an irresponsible parent, they were just doing their job. Hopefully this will be the last time Bryant and Miller are charged under circumstances like these.
