Bunnies are better than children.

I am one of those childfree people who get asked routinely by other people I meet if I have children. I have started to tell them, “Yes, I have thirteen of them. Had them all in four year’s time.” Their eyes get big and round until I whip out photos of them, all sitting in a row on our bed. Then I start giving out their names. It’s a great way to get raised eyebrows form the people who aske me “the question.” Yes, stuffed toy rabbits are better than children. They do not require cleaning up after, they do not scream and screech, they don’t ask me for food constantly, and best of all, they do not give me premature gray hairs. Even my husband enjoys the company of the bunnies. After I show them the photos, I whip out a photo of my husband when he was dressed at Hamlet’s Ghost in a college performance. That one grabs them the most but I can’t imagine why.

A childfree Christmas.

We don’t really observe a formal Christmas - we do our holiday around Yalda (AKA the Solstice) which is quite simple. There’s no big tree decorating nor family melee, just my husband and myself and the bunnies which is very peaceful and quiet. We’ll have some traditional harvest foods of the season - watermelon, pomegranate, nuts, baklava, and oranges. No fruitcake that can be used in masonry, which is great news. Now all I have to do is force myself to find some time to clean the apartment in time for Yalda. Until then, Happy Childfree Holidays to all my readers.
